President Rajapaksa Meets Cuban President in Bolivia

SANTA CRUZ, BOLIVIA: President Mahinda Rajapaksa met Cuban President Raul Castro yesterday on the sidelines of the Summit of the Group of 77 and China (G77+China).

The President of Cuba assured Sri Lanka that Cuba would continuously support Sri Lanka at international fora. The meeting took place in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

President Castro said, “We like to work with leaders like you. Fidel wanted me to convey his regards to all friends of Cuba. You are one of our friends.”

President Rajapaksa thanked Cuba for its support and said, “We feel comfortable when you are there”. He also said, “We know we have a friend who understands us.”

While attending the G77+China Summit, President Rajapaksa also held bilateral discussions with the leaders of Gabon, Uruguay and Equatorial Guinea at the Expo Cruz Export Center on Sunday (June 15) and explained Sri Lanka’s actual situation to them.

In the discussions, the President explained the ground situation in Sri Lanka to the world leaders and drew their attention to enhancing bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and their respective countries in the fields of economy, trade, investment and tourism.
